Phoebe is a full-time piano teacher based in Singapore with over 20 years of teaching experience. She started her musical journey with the violin at age 6 before transitioning to keyboard and finally piano at age 11. For someone who has been playing by ear before starting formal lessons, she has much difficulty adjusting to classical piano, as the latter is more technically difficult. However, her love of music and persistence allowed her to overcome obstacles in learning and under the tutelage of Mr Law Wai Lun (cultural medallion recipient 2017, former composer in residence of SCO), she managed to achieve merits and distinctions in most of her ABRSM piano and theory exams.
Phoebe eventually obtained a Licentiate Diploma in Recital in Solo Piano (LTCL) from Trinity College London. She also has anAssociate Diploma in Recital in Solo Piano (ATCL) and an Associate Diploma in Music Pedagogy (Class II) from Seimpi School of Music. Her other teachers (post grade 8) included Mr Arkadiuz Bialak (former Lasalle teacher), and Mdm Lim Eng Lee.
To broaden her musical experience, Phoebe joined the SMU string ensemble (Obligato) as a 2nd violinist during her undergraduate years. She also regularly attends workshops, seminars, masterclasses and concerts to ensure continued music learning and growth.
A dedicated and committed music teacher, Phoebe hopes to nurture students to not only obtain the skills and technique in piano playing, but also to develop a passion in music that can last a lifetime. So far, she has 100% passes in ABRSM exams and a proven track record of students achieving merits, distinctions in their exams and students achieving gold and platinum awards in competitions and festivals. To encourage students to hone their performing skills and to learn from one another, Phoebe also organizes student concerts annually and prepare students for festivals and competitions.
Phoebe is currently teaching at her home studio with a Schimmel 188 International grand piano for teaching advanced levels as well as a Weber 121 upright piano for teaching beginner to intermediate levels.
